Top 5 Beauty Faves of 2017

Before I get into my fave beauty products of 2017, let me give you a little context. Everything I use is, to the best of my knowledge, cruelty free – that is my number one criteria. On a less serious note, I’m on a never ending quest to have perfect skin.

I consulted a MD who specializes in dermatology to get to the nitty gritty of my skin care routine. I’ve never had problematic skin, it’s a little sensitive and I’m just a secretly vain person. Here’s what I learned: water is your best friend. Your hair and skin can’t benefit from hydration if your body isn’t taken care of first. Pore size has a genetic component so you may never see the minimized results you’re looking for. And when it comes to your skincare routine, less is more.

With this knowledge in hand, here are the top five beauty products I’ve been crushing on so far this year.

1. Province Apothecary – Moisturizing Cleanser + Makeup Remover

This product quickly became a favourite after the first use. Province Apothecary makes an amazing cleanser and makeup remover with avocado and raspberry extracts that is safe for all skin types. I mostly use this product to remove my makeup and can’t express how much I love this stuff.

Since it’s an oil, the application process was a little different than I was used to, but still amazing nonetheless. Simply add a pump onto your dampened skin and rub away! Because it’s made of essential oils and other natural products it’s super gentle and nourishing. Bonus – it  takes off all the makeup this mascara junkie applies with no lash breakage.

I’ve been using about a pump a day for the last few weeks and I’ve barely made a dent in the bottle so it’s definitely worth the splurge. You can bet I will be testing out more products from this Canadian company in 2017.

2. LUSH Cosmetics – Coalface Facial Cleanser

I’m currently loving LUSH’s Coalface facial cleanser. It’s a really mild formula and is super gentle on my sensitive skin. I also really like that the bar has charcoal which is great for drawing out oils and impurities and is definitely on trend for 2017. I use it twice a day, it’s never dried out my skin and I’m still working with the same bar I bought four months ago! Until I’ve mastered the use of charcoal and clay in my own homemade products, I’ll be sticking with this one for sure.

3. Skin Essence – Neroli Serum

Once I’ve cleaned my face I like to hydrate with SKIN ESSENCE Neroli Serum. It quickly became another one of my loves as it’s completely organic, eco-friendly, and made in Canada. The oil formula is very hydrating and makes my skin super radiant without looking oily. I pick this product up from Terra 20 on Wellington Street.

4.  BITE Beauty – Agave Lip Mask

I’m obsessed with lip maintenance (because I’m a lipstick fiend) and nothing makes me happier than when my lips are a smooth canvas to apply my colour. BITE Beauty Agave Lip Mask is honestly the most hydrating and nourishing thing you can put on your lips. A bit on the pricier side, but a little goes a long way as it lasts up to 2 years once opened.

I coat my lips with this mask before bed, leave it on overnight and wake up to smooth and hydrated lips. BITE is proudly Canadian and made in Toronto, ON. It’s a really great brand and I’m all about supporting Canadian companies!

5. Province Apothecary – Lavender Mint Stick

My final beauty obsession is lip balm – I love the stuff. If I’m not wearing lipstick I’ve got lip balm on. This past summer, I started my cruelty free regime and discovered that my go-to Nivea balm didn’t make the cut . Luckily, after discovering Province Apothecary products, I gave their lip balm a shot. The lavender and mint stick not only hydrates, but it smells great too. I’m once again a happy camper and think I may even like this one more than Nivea.

BONUS!

None of this would be possible it I wasn’t properly hydrated! Water is actually the most underrated beauty product out there. It’s recommended to drink at least 64 oz a day, which is eight 8 oz glasses if you want to get technical. Drink up!

Now you’ve got my top five beauty products of 2017 and a brief look into what my skincare routine looks like. Be sure to keep an eye out for my homemade face mask and scrub recipes coming soon!
